Rambutan trees need full sun and moist, fast-draining soil to grow well. Although full sun is best in most areas, a little light shade at midday is advised in hot, dry climates. A full-grown rambutan tree can range in size from 15 to 80 feet in height with a 15- to 40-foot spread, so choose a growing location large enough to accommodate its mature size.  Rambutan trees need regular watering throughout most of year, although they will tolerate brief periods of dryness without issue. Reduce watering in winter or during periods of cool weather.
